Cosmetic dentistry practices aim to improve the appearance of your teeth, gums, or bite. While the procedures involved mainly focus on improving the aesthetics of your smile, some have medical benefits as well. Dental Fillings

We use a compounded topical anesthetic made in the Midwest to numb your gums up before we use local anesthetic so your experience getting numb is as stress free as possible. Most of the time patients don’t even realize there was a needle involved!

There are two types of dental fillings: amalgam, which is silver, and composite, which looks like your natural tooth. Although Dr. Wendy does not find it necessary to remove amalgam fillings until it is necessary, she only uses composite tooth-colored restorations. Of course they look better, but they also have many physical properties that make this choice superior to the old fashioned silver fillings. She would be happy to go over any questions with you at your initial visit.
Bonding

With this procedure, we’re able to restore teeth that are chipped, stained, or gapped. We can match the shade of the surrounding teeth with modern technology. No one will even be able to tell they aren’t your natural teeth!

Bonding is recommended for smaller defects in teeth. For larger ones, i.e. ones that require entire tooth repair, we recommend a crown or veneer instead.

Bridges

If you have a missing tooth or teeth between healthy teeth, we can create a fixed bridge for you at Marshall Dental Care of Victor.

Bridges are like crowns, but a bridge needs at least two teeth to support it. For example, if you’re missing one tooth, we would make a three-tooth bridge with the two surrounding healthy teeth supporting. They are typically made from porcelain but have metal substructures.

The bridge procedure will require at least two appointments in order to adjust and then cement the bridge into place. Sometimes, a patient may even need a third visit to test the framework. But the end result is definitely worth the time!

Crowns

A crown is placed over a tooth that has had its structure compromised. First, we prepare the tooth in question so that a crown can be designed to easily fit over it. Then, we take impressions and match the color to your teeth. We place a temporary crown and that concludes your first appointment.

Your impression then gets sent to a local lab ( some offices send to China) where they use the best and appropriate materials for your case. There are many different grades of materials and Dr. Wendy’s motto on this is “I will only use what I would for my own family.” She also stands behind her work so if there is ever an issue she will be happy to discuss it.

Once the permanent crown has been created in the lab, you will be called back for your second appointment to have it placed. We will make sure it is comfortable and fully functional before cementing the crown into place.

Teeth Whitening

There are many things that cause staining on your teeth. Drinking coffee, red wine, and other beverages with colors, and smoking are some. Tooth enamel can also naturally darken with the aging process. Teeth may also darken due to trauma, as well as certain diseases and medications.

At Marshall Dental Care of Victor, we have looked into every available option for whitening teeth.  Although the in-office method does whiten your teeth quite a bit in an hour, the majority of patients will still have to wear take-home trays for at least a week.  The in-office bleaching cost is almost four times the amount of our take-home kit so Dr. Wendy’s feeling is, it’s just not worth the extra cost compared to wearing the trays for one more week. Marshall Dental Care also only charges $199 for the same kit for which other offices charge twice as much.

The at-home option starts with a quick appointment to take impressions of your teeth so we can create a tray designed just for you to hold the whitening treatment against your tooth enamel. Wear it for a few hours daily for 1-3 weeks to see effective results.

Please keep in mind that your dietary and other lifestyle habits will affect how long the whitening treatment lasts. Also, some patients have a temporary increased sensitivity in the teeth and gums.

Your gums and teeth should be healthy in order to be considered a candidate for whitening. It also doesn’t make much sense for people with fillings, crowns, veneers, or dentures to have whitening done, since the natural teeth will be the only ones affected. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also not have whitening done. Please call our office if you have any questions.

Porcelain Veneers

If your goal is to change the color, shape, length, alignment, or spacing of your teeth, porcelain veneers may be a good option.

Veneers take two appointments to place but can give you the smile of your dreams. During the first appointment, we prepare the surfaces of the teeth in question and create a model of the veneer. We then send that model to the lab to have them create it.

During the second visit, your new veneers will be tested and cemented in place. Everything is porcelain; there is no metal used to create veneers.

Please visit our Smile Gallery page if you’d like to see what other patients have been able to do with veneers.

Restorative Dentistry

This can benefit those with tooth decay, teeth fractures, and older restorations that need some updating. Cavities left untreated will only become worse, and your treatment options will become more and more expensive and limited. You may even lose a tooth entirely due to a cavity. Cavities form when the bacteria in your mouth combine with sugars consumed in food to form a mild acid. This acid begins to dissolve the tooth enamel. Anyone of any age is susceptible to cavities.

At Marshall Dental Care of Victor, we check any restorative dental work for signs of wear and decay. We use X-rays to help us determine this. If any cavities are detected, we will give you your options for treatment. If the cavity is caught early enough, a home fluoride treatment may do the trick instead of a traditional filling.

We see patients from Macedon, Victor, Bloomfield, Pittsford, Farmington, Canandaigua, Fairport and beyond.
